Kia Cee’d Sportswagon, To Enjoy With The Family

The Kia Cee’d Sportswagon is the family variant of the successful compact from the South Korean brand. It brings with it the practicality of the interior of a magnificent compact, to which we must add a huge trunk, capable of putting the whole family’s luggage without having to play Tetris with the suitcases.

In northern European countries, the family versions of saloons and compacts are more in demand than their respective four- or five-door models. In our country, despite the fact that it is increasing, the percentage with this body configuration is still low, and even more so with the SUV fever that we are experiencing.

This Cee’d Sportswagon is practically the same vehicle as the Hyundai i30 CW, a model with which it shares a platform, engine and a large number of components. We remind you that Kia has been a member of the Hyundai conglomerate for some years.

Kia Cee’d Sportswagon design

Even the C-pillar, nothing changes aesthetically compared to the five-door model. What Kia has done is slightly increase its battle to improve the cargo space of the trunk and avoid the excess rear overhang that some family members have. The total length amounts to 4.51 meters, 20 centimeters more than the compact.

The front part stands out for a very modern wedge-shaped nose, to which is added a very inclined window, with an original grill and elongated headlights that give dynamism to the whole.

The side view is the most striking of this Kia Cee’d Sportswagon, with a belt line that starts very low at the front and works its way up to the rear of the car. Thanks to this line, from the frontolateral view we hardly appreciate that it is a family version, a design very successful by the South Koreans.

The rear is rounded and modern, but with discreet lines and without too many frills, as the previous Honda Civic Tourer had. With this design, Kia has tried to please everyone, with a clean and pleasant style.

Inside

The ace up the sleeve of this Kia is saving it for when you enter the interior. Its heights are a benchmark for its competitors, and its manufacturing quality and robustness can, now, compete with the jet set of the segment without problems, among which is the i30.

The front seats, without standing out in anything, fully comply with everything. The quality of the adjustments is very good and it uses soft touch plastics in the most visible areas.

Although it has a multifunction touch screen, it has not given up a large number of buttons and the result is a rather complex dashboard at first glance  but easy to adapt, since all the locations of the controls are very logical.

The rear seats are, along with those of the Hyundai i30, some of the most spacious in the C segment, with outstanding legroom and a width at the height of the shoulders almost suitable to accommodate three adults in comfort, something unthinkable for the vast majority of its competitors.

If one chooses this version instead of the five-door, it is because of the trunk, and this Kia Cee’d Sportswagon does not disappoint. With a load volume of 528 liters, it does not stand out against its rivals, since models like the Golf exceed 600 liters. Even so, it is an excellent figure and has very regular shapes that facilitate loading.

Dynamics and engines

The main obsession of this model is the comfort of the occupants. For this, it has a fairly soft setting that filters the irregularities of the asphalt wonderfully, but which has a hard time maintaining the body roll in slow curves.

The level of soundproofing is also very well achieved, which makes this Kia the perfect companion for highway trips. For slow roads with sharp curves, a Ford Focus or a Peugeot 308 are much more suitable, with a sportier set-up.

Regarding the five-door model, this family loses the most basic access engines, both the 100 hp gasoline and the 90 hp diesel.

• Gasoline : it has a great 1.0 turbocharged engine that delivers 120 hp of power. Without a doubt, it suits him very well and moves the South Korean with relative ease in most situations.
• Diesel: both powers share the 1.6-liter block, with 110 and 136 hp. The one with the lowest power is only available with the Concept finish, the most basic, and they leave almost all the prominence to the most powerful. With 110 hp it is able to move the car without difficulties; It takes 11.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km / h.

The 136 hp is, in our opinion, the best choice given the vehicle’s load capacities. With both engines, consumption is four liters per 100 kilometers, a very good figure.

Prices

Part of the € 20,975 that the Kia Cee’d Sportswagon costs with a 110 hp diesel engine and the basic finish and manual gearbox, up to the € 29,075 that they ask us for the 136 hp GT Line diesel with the Luxury Pack and box automatic.

They are very even prices to those of most rivals of generalist brands, perhaps a little lower, but without relevant distances to opt for it. In addition, the level of equipment that it brings from the most basic finishes is very abundant.

Few drawbacks we can get to this model, which not only can boast of rear seats worthy of a higher segment, but we do not miss anything in any other section. You may like it more or less aesthetically, but this Kia Cee’d Sportswagon is a great buy.
