John Cooper Works, The MINI Sports Range

Whichever variant is chosen, we will always have that touch of a car with kart-type driving in our hands, in which the sensations prevail.
John Cooper Works, the MINI sports range

John Cooper Works is the name of the MINI sports range: a tribute to John Cooper that gives MINI models an extra touch of power and aesthetics. This version  only comes with a four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine  that develops no less than 231 hp.

The John Cooper Works range currently consists of four models:  three-door hatchback (original MINI), Convertible, Clubman and Countryman; They offer high performance, as they are the most powerful, with the most aggressive design and, of course, the most expensive.

Original MINI and convertible

These cars are a spicier incarnation of MINI’s most iconic. Its current appearance is carried over to a racing-inspired design ; They add different elements such as new wheels and light changes, but noticeable, in the bodies, such as the design itself of the bumpers and plastic protectors in the side skirts and wheel arches.

MINI convertible: rear
The rear of the MINI convertible, although wider and more aggressive, will always evoke that of the first MINI from 1959.

Inside it shows a two-color upholstery as well as details on the dash and door handle. Its stainless steel pedals satisfy the most shrewd looks, with an added touch of sportiness.

It offers a leather steering wheel with a perfectly arranged button panel, and both its dash and instrument panel come from the standard MINI models. They have a 2.0 TwinPower Turbo engine of 231 CV and of BMW origin, and are associated with manual or automatic gearboxes, both with 6 gears.

Mini Clubman John Cooper Works

The Clubman was renovated to become part of the John Cooper Works family; It has new bumpers, 19-inch wheels and the interior at the same level of quality and appeal as its three-door MINI Hatchback and convertible siblings.

MINI Clubman 2017: side
The side view of the 2017 MINI Clubman suggests that the total length is 4.25 meters, and that is 27 centimeters more than the five-door model, hence its considerably greater habitability.

With regard to its engines, it also has the 2.0 Turbo 231 hp engine and automatic and manual transmissions; It has the Total All4 traction system. In addition, the Clubman JCW is available with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.

MINI Countryman JCW

It is the crossover of the group, and therefore the most spacious. The MINI John Cooper Works Countryman has a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo engine and 231 hp, just like its brothers in the range.

It can only be ordered with ALL4 all-wheel drive, and can optionally mount a six- speed automatic transmission. Regarding its interior design, it maintains the same quality standard as the John Cooper Works range.

It is true that the entire range has the same motorization, and mechanically they differ in the 4 × 4 traction and boxes with different number of gears; performance will be similar, but not the same for the simple fact that the bodies have different dimensions and weights.  Nor will it be a huge difference.

JCW prices

The cost of the John Cooper Works varies depending on the model,  from 34,650 to 40,500 euros. It is true that the cost of cars varies depending on the finish, and this time we are talking about the top of the range of different models.

The original MINI can be priced from approximately 34,650 euros, while the convertible version costs about 38,800. The Clubman can start to be calculated at 39,100 euros and the Countryman, which is the most expensive of all, starts from the 40 450 euros.

It is clear that they are not affordable prices, although the extra sportiness, aggressiveness and exclusivity of the JCW versions, make them a distinctive purchase.

But not only that, since whatever variant is chosen, we will always have in our hands that touch of a car with kart- type driving , in which the sensations prevail.
