Mercedes A-Class, A Change Of Course
Something is happening in . Ase was the slogan of the German firm at the beginning of the decade, motivated by the launch of new products much more carefree and different from what was seen until then, as it did with this Mercedes A-Class.
As if that were not enough, after the profound change that the brand underwent in a short time, the arrival of a specific product was a huge arrival of fresh air. New sap, new and younger customers. Thus was born the third generation of the A- Class.
Mercedes responded with the new A-Class to customers who asked for an equivalent to the cheapest ‘ merche ‘, but did not leave the brand name in a bad place. In fact, it marked the beginning of a new era that still lasts.
Design
On the visual plane, the A-Class received a series of changes due to the half-cycle renewal it underwent in 2016, making up various details that improved the car’s presence and making it more fresh and natural.
However, an untrained eye will have difficulty differentiating the old model from the new one, so the resale price of the original has not suffered much.
The changes come in the form of new minimally different front and rear bumpers, new headlights and lamps with LED technology and newly designed wheels.
In addition, a version called Motorsport Edition has been added that includes aesthetic elements such as the AMG Sport exterior package, spoiler and a decoration set in the Formula 1 team.
Invariably, that peculiar design with a high waist and little glass surface is maintained that works so well from the outside, but not from the inside.
Cabin smaller than expected
An interior in which the changes are less if possible than in the exterior. It maintains the same dimensions of space, such as a 341-liter trunk (less than most of its rivals) or a space in the rear seats somewhat limited by the drop of the roof and the shape of the front seats.
Among the few novelties, we find new decorative and seat finishes, a new larger infotainment system and improved connectivity; as well as a new, sportier steering wheel.
Versions
In the mechanical section, the Mercedes A-Class draws on a varied range in both gasoline and diesel, with three available options of each type, to which the performance model should be added.
- Petrol: versions A 180, 200 and 250 Sport; with 122, 156 and 218 CV of power respectively.
- Diesel: versions A 180d, 200d and 220d; with powers of 109, 122 and 177 CV respectively.
Prices
The price range is that of a premium compact, with a minimum rate of close to 30,000 euros that can be increased as far as the customer’s portfolio can practically.
To make things easier, we will divide the options into the levels, basic, intermediate and finally the most powerful, with gasoline mechanics being the first of them in any case. The A 180s start at 26,525 and 28,850 euros each, while the A 200s do the same from 32,550 and 29,850 euros respectively.
Finally, the A 250 Sport increases its rate to 45,400 euros, while the more powerful diesel option, the A 220d, has a label indicating a minimum price of 36,000 euros.
Of course, we must not forget that it is a volume car that attracts a multitude of new customers to the brand, especially young people, so it is not uncommon to find promotions that reduce the price; more so now that your time in the market is running out.
