Lexus LS: The Possible Japanese Flagship

Lexus launches its new flagship, the Lexus LS.
Lexus LS: the possible Japanese flagship

Lexus aims to reach its top-of-the-range model with its new LS. Among the statements of the Japanese brand, the intention to offer a vehicle with the power of a V12 and the efficiency of a V6 stands out. Lexus has not left anyone indifferent when it comes to fusing power and efficiency, as has happened with models like the RC, and the Lexus LS may be one more example of this good practice.

The exterior of the Lexus LS

The exterior design does not stand out for providing great novelties in terms of the usual design of Lexus models. The front part is crowned by the classic large grille in the shape of a double arrowhead, adorned with the logo of the Japanese brand. This is accompanied by air intakes under the headlights.

These headlights have a long, tapered design, similar to models like the LC but contrasting with the appearance of others, such as the Lexus IS. On the side there are no major changes or notable elements, perhaps with the exception of some curved skirts towards the rear wheels.

Finally, the rear provides a boxy and robust look. With all this, the exterior aesthetics of the Lexus LS aims to show robustness and power, perhaps approaching the successful formulas of brands such as BMW or Mercedes, with their well-known luxury sedans.

Interior design

The characteristics of the Lexus LS give rise to two rear seats with complete equipment in terms of comfort and safety. Quadrix air conditioners can be found, so that each traveler can adjust the temperature to their desired level. In addition, the entire cabin is covered in high-quality leather, with a very pleasant touch.

The fastening of all the seats leaves nothing to be desired even at the highest speeds and all seats are separated by central consoles. These include DVD chargers and headphone jacks to enjoy a movie on the go via an 8-inch screen mounted on the roof. In addition, you can find very useful compartments, such as a refrigerated glove compartment.

The front area is decorated with a multitude of wooden elements on the steering wheel, dashboard, doors and the gear lever area. These front seats have an even more generous space than the rear ones, and are perfectly comfortable for people over 1.80 meters tall.

Equipment and driving aids

The interface is arranged on a central 8-inch touch screen. It includes a large number of functions. The language of the multimedia system, the color gamut or the route information can be managed.

In addition, data on consumption, the calendar, Bluetooth connections -which can accommodate up to six devices- and the status of the liquids can be obtained. In this way, the rider can control oil levels, brake fluid, air filters or tire pressure.

As for the driver assistance equipment, the LS has Lexus Park Assist. This automatic parking system is very widespread among vehicles in this category, and helps the driver to park through rear cameras to avoid blind spots. In addition, the vehicle calculates the space behind it and turns automatically to minimize the margin of error when parking.

The mechanics of the Lexus LS

The LS hybrid powertrain features a V8 petrol engine that achieves 520 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the electric motor can provide a torque of 300 Nm. Between the two engines, the LS achieves a generous top power of 445 hp.

Acceleration is not one of the most remarkable parameters of the Lexus LS, which can go from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds. Even so, it must be taken into account that the dimensions and mechanics of the vehicle assume a weight of almost 2,500 kg. With this in mind, it should be noted that the vehicle offers good acceleration for overtaking, and can raise its speed from 80 to 120 km / h in 4.3 seconds.

The Lexus LS trim range

The Japanese manufacturer offers four trim levels for its model, the most basic being the Corporate , available from 121,500 euros. Next is the Executive , which amounts to 149,700 euros. Beyond it is the F Sport finish , whose cost reaches 133,400 euros.

At the top of the range is the Luxury variant , with a price that starts at 158,900 euros. These high prices are not within the reach of any pocket, but they are reasonable considering the high level of luxury of the vehicle, in addition to the complete equipment, its comfort and its powerful mechanics. With the LS, Lexus aims to reach a milestone in its history, offering the market a model that stands as its flagship.
