Opel Crossland X: The New Era Of Opel SUVs

The Opel Crossland X is one of the Opel SUV models with which the German firm fully enters a new era. This is a new stage in its history with more than 150 years behind it and more than a hundred years making cars.

This small crossover , launched on the market during the summer months of 2017, has the mission of fighting against rivals such as the Audi Q2, the SsangYong Tivoli, the urban Kia Soul, the Fiat 500X, the Renault Captur crossover or the compact Nissan Juke, among others.

This Opel crossover is a sample of how the car market is changing right now. Specifically, within the Opel range it replaces the Meriva, a small minivan that was in operation from 2000 to early 2017 with two generations.

It is also one of three Opel ‘X’ models, along with the 4 × 4 Mokka X – an update to the old Mokka – and the Grandland X SUV. Among them, the Crossland X is the shortest of the three.

Being shorter than the Mokka X, the lines are somewhat more contained, but even so , new lines are beginning to be appreciated that had not been seen before in other models of the German brand.

Both the grille and the headlights begin to have sharper lines, with a design reminiscent of those of the Peugeot range. This resemblance can also be seen on both the roof and the rear lights of the model.

Despite the fact that the Crossland X is somewhat smaller than the Mokka X, it is natural to find inside a cabin similar to that of this other model, but with larger dimensions.

The design is very similar, both in finish and style, although there are notable differences. The main ones are noted in the modified cargo space available through various elements.

On the other hand, in addition to having connectivity with both Android and Apple mobile devices, the infotainment system is quite similar to that of the Mokka X, the Opel Astra and the Grandland X. Thanks to the system, Opel OnStar can also have  WiFi connection, as with other models in the range of the German brand.

As for the measurements of the Crossland X, in this aspect we are facing the most curious Opel SUV in the range, because the cabin itself is quite spacious considering that it is shorter and narrower than the Mokka X.

Of course, what gives space is in the hollow for the legs of the rear row of seats, surpassed in this area by other models such as the Ford B-Max or the Nissan Note. Regarding the height of the roof, the Opel Crossland X has no problem, although it is also lower than the Mokka X.

The most basic gasoline engine that the Crossland X has is the 1.2 MPF1 naturally aspirated 81 hp. This is the only one of its kind in the Crossland X range. Despite being the lowest power engine, it is the one that consumes the most, with an average figure of 5.2 liters per 100 km.

After this engine, several versions of the 1.2 Turbo appear, all with Start & Stop system. There is one with 110 hp of power with ecoTEC system, another with automatic transmission,  and a top-of-the-range variant with 130 hp and six-speed manual transmission.

On the other hand, despite the fact that it is a functional car designed for both city and highway, Opel has decided to concentrate the diesel supply on two engines.

The first is a 1.6 turbo 99 hp with five gears and the lowest average fuel consumption of the Crossland X of all at 3.9 l / 100 km. The second is another 1.6 variant with Start & Stop system with 120 hp and six-speed manual transmission.

Regarding prices, this Opel SUV can be found for a starting price around 16,500. As we move up the range available, we can reach almost € 24,000.
