Mercedes-AMG CLA 45

As is customary in the range of a renowned brand such as Mercedes, their cars have a range parallel to the conventional one made by models developed by the AMG preparer. The Mercedes CLA is no exception and that is why we come across the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45.

With the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45, the German firm reuses the ingredients already seen in the most performing A-Class and GLA, now with a slimmer and more traditional suit: that of a saloon. It may be the brand’s smallest sedan, but it deserves the AMG name like any other.

Design

In terms of aesthetics, the AMG CLA does not differ much from any other diesel-powered CLA equipped with an optional AMG exterior package. However, with a closer look at anyone with more motorsports skills or knowledge and who likes cars, you will know what the differences are between one and the other.

The front features a new grille with exclusive horizontal bars for this version, while the bumper has small aerodynamic moldings next to the engine cooling inlets.

For its part, the rear features a small lip on the tailgate and a larger diffuser, in which the four trapezoidal exhaust outlets stand out. The applied improvements are the same whatever the chosen bodywork.

Turning to the interior, as in any other AMG, the presence of enveloping and sporty leather seats and  Alcantara inserts stands out . The new steering wheel, sportier and thicker with its flattened lower area, as well as decorative moldings with new available materials, complete the set.

Mechanics

In this section, and as in many other elements, the most performing version of the CLA range shares motorization and transmission with the AMG A 45 and AMG GLA 45. This means that it uses a tight 2.0  four-cylinder engine  that delivers a 381 hp total power  thanks to the use of turbocharging.

This power is transmitted to all four wheels –4MATIC– through a 7-speed automatic transmission specific to the models developed by AMG. As in the conventional CLA range, the AMG 45 version is also available in two body styles : a four-door coupé and a five-door Shooting Brake.

Prices

Mercedes offers the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 from 65,800 euros in the case of the saloon. If extra habitability is needed – without excesses since the design negatively interferes in this aspect – the brand offers the five-door version. The Shooting Brake is available from 66,425 euros.
