SsanYong Rodius

Spacious is the first word that comes to mind when we refer to the SsangYong Rodius, so if this seven-seater car can offer something, it is comfort and space guaranteed for the whole family.

SsangYong Rodius is an ode to comfort. The giant minivan of the Korean manufacturer enjoys extensive equipment, comfort and reasonable prices; its last update gave it a clean appearance, which adjusts it to the aesthetic canons of today.

With a good number of extras, good value for money and a more modern design, this car could become a good option to forget a bit about the rest of the traditional brands.

The exterior design was precisely what was most updated in the latest installment of the SsanYong Rodius. After  many years without undergoing any kind of retouching, in 2018 we could see a much more robust, sporty design with a front face that gives a feeling of spaciousness.

The headlights are now LED and form a kind of V, in parallel with their characteristic black stripe. Its rear part has not changed much, as has the internal equipment.

Interior design plus habitability

Another aspect that continues to be maintained in this large car is its interior and equipment. The creators of the SsangYong Rodius know very well that internal design and comfort are precisely their forte.

For those who still do not know, this car has three segments that define its level of equipment: Line, Premium and Limited. Starting with the cheapest segment, we have 12 volt connectors, heated mirrors and the rest of the additional elements that we are used to.

From the Premium level we begin to see quite attractive accessories. Drivers who access this product will have at their disposal automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, a navigator with a rear camera, cruise control and leather linings.

It should be noted that this minivan has its difficulties to maintain rear vision, so it is recommended to opt for models that have the camera with 360-degree vision.

For its part, the luxury model has all leather upholstery, which creates an environment of greater comfort and elegance. To top it off, the cabin is vastly improved including heated front seats and steering wheel, a power sunroof and larger 17-inch wheels.

With this size of rims, traction improves considerably, being able to be compared a little in this aspect with other similar cars;  some extra elements have been added in terms of security. Of the rest, the space throughout is more than enough and we must remember that this giant has seven seats.

Engines and behavior

Another limitation of this vehicle is the offer of a single engine, something that has happened since 2016. The SsangYong Rodius has a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder D22T diesel engine. Its power is 178 horsepower and it delivers a maximum torque of 400 nm.

Its top speed is 187 km / h and has a mixed consumption of 7.2 liters with manual gearbox. This is one of the most efficient versions as far as consumption is concerned.

Where there is an option to customize, it is in the exchange rate. In this regard, future owners can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or the five-speed T-tronic automatic.

One of the aspects that experts criticize many of the cars of this brand is the traction, which could be a bit slow. This and the fact that the car has few devices for driving assistance are perhaps its greatest weaknesses.

The good thing about the dynamic behavior of this car is that it behaves with moderate efficiency on any terrain. It is a versatile tool for many situations.

Prices

The spacious  SsangYong Rodius has an initial cost that is between 25,280 and 29,000 euros. Its automatic Limited version is the most expensive and amounts to almost 40,000 euros, so the range between models is not so outrageous.

One of the improvements that the Korean brand has been introducing in this product is the extension of its warranty to 5 years. With the first generations the warranties only lasted three years.

Basically, those looking for this car want comfort, plenty of room for luggage and passengers, and an adaptive design for the countryside and the city. Both its equipment and its traction could improve, but its performance is adequate for a somewhat large family.
