Rolls-Royce Phantom

The first copy of this car hit the streets of London in 1925, and since then, it has not stopped evolving, with different occasional renovations
Rolls-Royce Phantom

Is the Rolls-Royce Phantom the most luxurious car of all time? Probably yes. The 2018 version, the eighth generation of this model with 93 years of history, can be defined as opulence. But with the elegance, class and prestige necessary to avoid falling into excessive extravagance.

These brands have always been looking to cater to a very specific sector: those who don’t care about the price of a car when they get it out of the dealership. Or better yet, those who order through a catalog and receive it at one of their properties.

Exterior design

The Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII strikes the perfect balance between continuity and renewal. As has happened with every new generation, you only need to see it once to know which model it is. After 14 years since the previous version came out, a renovation was necessary.

Among the aspects of its renovation, a wider grill in front. It is complemented at each end by two laser headlights that, according to what the engineers of the British company have said, are the most powerful on the planet; with a range that exceeds 600 meters.

Other very interesting novelties that have been integrated into the Rolls-Royce Phantom are chrome slats that run from the hood to the windshield.

To complement the 5.76m or 5.98m of aluminum body, depending on the version, the Phantom offers the largest stainless steel frame ever mounted on a production car. For the axles, 22-inch alloy wheels.

Rolls-Royce Phantom inside: superlative

The novelties inside the cabin are another waste of luxury and quality. The renewal of the technological section is total. For the enjoyment of the four passengers, plus the driver, the first thing that stands out is a 12.3-inch screen, designed to control all multimedia functions.

Each of the elements on board can be customized following the requirements of each owner. In addition to an extensive pre-established catalog of options and accessories to choose from, the company offers the possibility for an artist to decorate the dashboard.

Beyond gadgets and individual decorations, the most impressive thing about the habitability inside the Rolls-Royce Phantom is its silence ; For this, more than 130 kg of insulating elements are used.

This impressive model also features 6mm thick double layer glass windows. With the car in overdrive and no audio systems in action, the only audible thing is the analog clock mounted on the dashboard.

Mechanics and dynamic behavior

The latest generation of the model considered by many as the ‘flagship’ of Rolls-Royce, equips a 12-cylinder V engine, 6,749 cc. It offers an output of 571 Horsepower at 3,500 rpm. To do this, it uses an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

The step from 0 to 100 km / h takes only 5.7 seconds, and its declared maximum speed is 250 km / h; As we can see, design, comfort and innovation go hand in hand with a powerful engine.

It is a vehicle to travel, but also to enjoy the driving experience. So much so that many of its traditional users do not think about it to sit behind the wheel.

For this efficient driving, new features such as the Magic Carpet Ride system intervene ; This is an innovation created to lift the body and adjust the shock absorbers as needed while riding.

The Phantom is also capable of reading and interpreting road conditions; The advantage it offers is to notice irregularities in the surface or the presence of curves and to minimize the movements of the body.

Price

Its starting cost is around € 478,362, the ‘standard’ sedan version, and € 564,212 for the extended body. This price can be multiplied several times depending on the accessories and the degree of customization that is desired. The most expensive model sold for just over € 13 million to an anonymous buyer.

A car worth what it costs

It’s hard to get another car that matches everything the Rolls-Royce Phantom has to offer. The battle waged by models like the Mercedes S-Class, the Bentley Flying or the BMW 7 Series, is only to determine who is in second place. As to which is the most luxurious car in the world, there is no doubt.
