Audi TT, the sports car that everyone wants

In the Audi range there are models that can attract more attention than others for obvious reasons. Do you want a car that, as soon as you see it, you think of luxury? you have the A8. An excellent sports car? that’s what the R8 is for.

Unfortunately, the latter is within the reach of a few, so for mortals the brand offers us the interesting Audi TT.

The small sports car from Ingolstadt is located within the compact segment, with a multitude of components shared with the Audi A3, with the chassis as the main element. It uses the group’s well-known MQB platform of transverse front engines.

Inspired by the original TT

Casual but sober, sporty but elegant. These could easily be the adjectives that have defined first-hand the style of the little TT since it hit the market in 1999.

Since then, three generations have already passed. As a good sports car, one of the most important details is the proportions, and the German delivers with note.

The front has one of the first wide grills of the brand, and the TT was launched in 2014 and was the first to integrate many elements that today are more widespread in the range.

An example of this are the Matrix LED headlights , an evolution of the previous Full LEDs . They have numerous functions to improve night vision without harming other cars, as well as dynamic indicators.

On the side one of the premises has been to recover a little the design of the first generation, with very marked rounded wheel arches and a more rounded roof drop.

Even so, the new TT stands out with a fold at the junction of the C-pillar with the fin (it seems somewhat simple, but according to the brand it was hard to integrate that detail into a piece that covers 1/3 of the car’s profile).

However, the rear has been the most conservative point of the whole car, where the retractable spoiler stands out the most and the return of the two semi-central tailpipes, an idea also taken from the first generation of the model.

You couldn’t expect much more from a car that has to stay true to its style when the brand itself is not very given to revs.

Even with everything, the interior is a revolution, breaking with everything previously seen until then. It was the first Audi to implement the Virtual Cockpit, which is also the only infotainment system in the entire car by dispensing with a central screen.

It is controlled by controls on the steering wheel and the MMI Touch . The few physical buttons stand out, since even the air conditioning controls are integrated into the ventilation intakes of it.

Versions

Mechanically, Audi has configured a very correct range for a sports car, with several versions available in terms of gasoline but only one diesel option, which, although it has enough power for a car of this type, is comparable to the most basic gasoline .

Be that as it may, whoever buys a diesel sports car is because they want, especially when it comes to a car like the TT, focused on driving pleasure.

For the consistent Willing to buy it with a lifelong mechanic, the brand offers an option below 200 hp, another above that barrier –230 hp– and for the fastest drivers, the 310 hp Audi TTS.

In this way, the engine-drive-transmission combinations are quite a lot, such as the choice between front or all-wheel drive Quattro and three different transmissions.

There is a six-speed manual transmission and two automatic S-tronic options: six-speed and seven-speed. If you can’t find your custom Audi TT, it doesn’t exist.
