Audi A4, a sedan too correct

The current Audi A4 was introduced in 2015 and is the fifth generation of the firm’s quintessential mid-size saloon. Located in the premium D segment , its main rivals are the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class, Volkswagen Passat  and Lexus IS, among others.

Available as a four-door saloon or a five-door station wagon ( Avant ), the A4 inherited from the Audi A6 a country-style version called the Allroad, which features raised bodywork and a unique design. The range is completed at the top by the sports versions S4 and RS4 Ava

Design somewhat bland

Aesthetically, the new Audi A4 drinks a lot from its predecessor while adopting aesthetic solutions from the R8  and TT sports cars . These  released a design language that, in the case of the saloon, is softened to adapt it to a much more commercial and correct product.

This means that straight and taut lines predominate, which gives the car a somewhat minimalist character due to the absence of superfluous ornaments . A very German look by the way.

The front, dominated by the singleframe grille of all Audi, now has more aggressive headlights and a bumper with larger air intakes. Of course, most of these are opaque, with no function other than improving aesthetics.

The side view has little or nothing new, all horizontal lines. Unlike the rear, which has a design that gives it a somewhat angry look with three-dimensional pilots that extend towards the center of the gate. The bumper, meanwhile, is now more enveloping than before.

As for the cabin, the first thing that catches your eye is the large ventilation outlet that runs along the entire dashboard from side to side, interrupted only by the 100% digital dashboard, the well-known Virtual Cockpit. This table is completely customizable and is accompanied by a large central screen on the dashboard.

Regarding the performance variants  S4 and S4 Avant, these present changes at the interior and exterior level. They are distinguished by more sporty decorative inserts, sports seats and steering wheel with contrasting stitching, while the exterior features a more aggressive front, slightly widened wheel arches and a very generous rear diffuser that accommodates four tailpipes.

Engines

In the technical section, the Audi A4 exposes a wide variety of mechanical options, one of the widest within the brand’s range. It is possible to equip four-cylinder engines in various power levels and a large V8 biturbo in the case of the S4 performance.

On the other hand, it offers the possibility of choosing between two types of automatic transmissions and one manual. They are the S-tronic and Tiptronic, 7 and 8 speeds respectively, while the manual is satisfied with 6 speeds. These transmissions can be associated with front-wheel drive or  Quattro all-wheel drive.

As for the V6 b iturbo propeller , it is a new invoice. This new engine has been developed from scratch to replace the veteran naturally aspirated V8 of the previous generation; its substitute is more energetic, ecological and powerful.

On the power level of the mechanics, this ranges from 122 hp to 354 hp. Meanwhile, there are options of 150, 163, 190, 218, 252 and 272 hp. The g-tron version has its own mechanics, with 170 hp. For its part, the Allroad is only available with the most powerful mechanics.

Prices

The Audi A4 is available with a starting price of 34,310 euros for the most basic diesel option, while gasoline starts at 34,700 euros. For the Avant, a supplement of around 2,000 euros would have to be applied to the base fares of the saloon. In the case of the S4, prices start at 73,590 euros.
