Bugatti Chiron

On the occasion of the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the French firm Bugatti presented what is its second hypercar of this century, a direct successor to the legendary Veyron. This is the Bugatti  Chiron, and more than a completely new model from scratch, it is a deep revision of the previous one, improving in every possible way.

Design

Visually the new Chiron is easily identifiable as a Bugatti, although it has adapted to the times. The front, chaired by the brand’s characteristic grille, is accompanied by two deep headlights made up of four 100% LED light spheres. The bumper, more aerodynamically worked, for its part retains a certain resemblance to the old Veyron.

The profile stands out for the great curve that marks the division of the rear with the rest of the car. Shaped like a C (from Chiron), it was integrated into the final design as a detail inspired by the brand’s most classic cars. In addition, it serves to delimit the two areas in body color, which like its predecessor can be chosen with two-tone.

As for the rear, it is a large grill that expels all the heat generated by its huge engine, crossed by a continuous strip of LEDs that act as taillights.

For its part, the interior looks much more modern and technological than in the Veyron, with a considerable decrease in the number of physical buttons (now they are roulettes with integrated screens) and a driving position that integrates a completely digital panel made up of three screens. TFT and an analog speedometer.

Mechanics

In this regard, the French brand has not revolutionized the industry as it did with the Veyron. Instead, the brand’s engineers have been tasked with improving and squeezing the 8-liter W16 engine turbocharged by four turbos from its predecessor.

With a declared total power of 1,500 horses and a huge torque of 1,600 N / m, it is one of the most capable cars on the market, with a top speed of more than 400 km / h, although until the brand carries out the relevant tests ( aim to reach 450 km / h) all models manufactured will be limited to 380 km / h.

Faced with such figures, the equipment necessary to stop such a powerful and heavy car (2 tons on the scale) has to be up to par. For this reason, the Chiron makes use of carbo-ceramic brakes with forged aluminum calipers and titanium pistons, as well as active aerodynamics that alone generate almost the same stopping power as a normal utility.

Versions

Since its launch, the Chiron has been available in a coupe body. This means that the convertible variant nicknamed Grand Sport is still to come. Although the latter is more of a targa than a typical roadster, the car’s shapes prevent developing a variant of this type without modifying the structure of the vehicle. There is no scheduled date for its presentation.
