Lotus Exige Sport 380
The British brand has surpassed its already impressive Lotus Exige Sport 350 with the launch of the Lotus Exige Sport 380 model. As its successor, the Lotus Exige Sport 380 appears on the market as a vehicle capable of competing with large supercars that triple and even quadruple its price.
The exterior of the Exige Sport 380
The new Lotus Cars model is completely clad in carbon fiber, which contributes with its aeodynamic design to bring the car to maximum performance. With the exception of the Lotus 3-Eleven, the Exige Sport 380 may be the most striking and groundbreaking model of the British manufacturer.
With aerodynamic improvements as the basis of the philosophy of this model, the Exige Sport 380 has a design that puts the car at just 140 kilos of downforce at maximum speed. Its improvements achieve 60% more performance than with the aerodynamic kit of the Exige Sport 350.
All of this has been achieved with design changes such as the addition of aerodynamic lips on the front bumper. In addition, a bonnet and roof made of carbon fiber can be added as extras, as well as some elements of the doors.
Its front part stands out for a sharp design, with elongated headlights located on the grille. The geometry of the grille is as striking as in other Lotus models, and it has fins on its sides.
As was the case with the Exige Sport 350, the side part incorporates air intakes behind the doors, and on the rear end is the large spoiler supported by a lattice structure.
The combination of colors is one of the most striking bets of the Exige 380, with the possibility of combining three different tones on the outside. In this way, parts such as the mirrors or the aprons differ from the spoiler or the grille, which in turn contrast with the general color of the vehicle.
The interior of the Exige Sport 380
Carbon fiber sports seats have been incorporated into the cabin, saving the model’s weight of six kilos. Similar to the Exige Sport 350, the new 380 is not characterized by an overly ostentatious interior.
This element has a large metallic knob and rises to a considerable height between the two seats. In addition, with a design reminiscent of the Abarth 695 Biposto Record, the lever reveals the mechanical system of the gearbox, which provides a very sporty and very attractive touch for fans of the motor world.
Except for a few different colored trims between the seats or on the inside of the doors, the interior of the Lotus Exige Sport 380 does not focus on aesthetic trims, but rather dedicates its design to enhancing the driving sensation.
The mechanics of the Lotus Exige Sport 380
The heart of this sports car comes from Toyota, through a V6 engine with 3.5 liters of displacement. Supercharged with a compressor, this engine gives the Sport 380 a maximum power of 380 hp at 6,700 rpm, in addition to a maximum torque of 410 Nm at 4,100 rpm.
One of the design details that have made it possible to achieve these power values is the new compressor belt, as well as an oil cooler and a new exhaust pipe. With its surprising mechanics, the Exige Sport 380 has an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds, surpassing the Sport 350 by two tenths. As for its maximum speed, it can reach 286 km / h.
Lotus has worked hard to reduce the weight of its models and, in this case, has launched a sports car with a curb weight of only 1,066 kilos. Some of the improvements, in addition to the already mentioned seats, are the use of a lighter diffuser, the reduction of weight in the windows and the ultralight alloy wheels.
The price of the Exige Sport 380
The market price of this attractive British-made sports car is around 89,900 euros. Its high price is not far from the 87,400 that the Exige Sport 350 could achieve. For this reason, it is a more than interesting option for those looking for a vehicle in this category, as it can have a renewed design and important mechanical improvements.
