The Closing Of Chrysler, A Simple Rumor?

The American brand has suffered significant setbacks in recent years that have brought it to an extreme situation, to the point that there is currently speculation with its definitive closure, is it true?
Chrysler closing, a simple rumor?

C hrysler has been a brand that has always been in one way or another in our lives. It was one of the few American brands that managed to gain a foothold in the European market. Since 2009 bells have been ringing about the brand’s economic problems, but what is true about the closing of Chrysler?

The history of Chrysler

As we said, already in 2009 there were serious problems at the factory that led to the closure of its plants in the United States. However, in Canada and Mexico, it continued to function. Obviously, this led to the sad dismissal of many workers, and other branches around the world were expected to suffer the same fate.

In order to clean up its accounts a bit, the factory filed for bankruptcy protection that allowed it to partner with Fiat and create the FCA-Chrysler group, in order to clean up the accounts, keep some workers and be able to save some customers. It seemed that all was not lost for the brand.

We do not know how beneficial this was for Chrysler but it was obvious how beneficial it was for Fiat, which had a bad reputation acquired for years for the unreliability of its engines. And although these had improved over the years, it didn’t seem to be enough for users. However, with the arrival of Chrysler to the brand, Fiat sales soared and today they have unique designs that are the dream of many.

Where do the rumors of the closure of Chrysler come from?

If we think about how well FCA-Chrysler is doing, it seems unfeasible that the company could be closed, but the rumors are there. Well, these rumors come from Venezuela, a country in which the company is going to cease its activities, but this measure does not apply worldwide.

The workers became suspicious when they were asked to take an inventory of everything present in the factory, a measure that is carried out at the end of the fiscal year and as a closing measure to calculate losses. There were also more serious suspicions learning that only 35 vehicles had been ordered for the first quarter and that the money had to be returned to the dealers because the order could not be fulfilled.

The thing was clear, FCA-Chrysler in Venezuela, would close its doors. Despite the low personnel costs – the workers only charged 9,000 bolivars a day, barely 1 euro – the brand has not been able to survive in the country.

Many speculate on the quality of products, problems with the government that makes everything more expensive and makes it difficult to import and export products, or even poor management.

This last cause would be the one that makes the least sense, since in other countries FCA-Chrysler works smoothly. The workers’ debate about the poor treatment they received is still open, although this is something that we do not want and we are not going to enter.

How is Fiat Chrysler doing in Spain?

As we said, this rumor is not such, it is a reality but it does not affect all FCA-Chrysler companies at all. In Spain, for example, 2017 was a splendid year for the company, which closed the year with more than 54,000 registered vehicles.

Jeep, Alfa Romeo and Fiat were satisfied with their spectacular figures that increased by more than 22% compared to the previous year. It is not surprising, as all three brands are launching models with incomparable and unrepeatable designs and with an extensive guarantee that reassures customers.

We hope that the partnership between the Italian and American brand will continue to do as well as it has up to now, as we want to continue seeing their works of art on the road and be able to count on them when we decide to buy a new vehicle.
