The public has decided: the SUV segment is the preferred one. Since the arrival of the Nissan Qashqai back in 2006, one of the most important changes of the last automotive decade began, which left the mid-size sedans without reaction capacity. To be able to decide between so much novelty, today we are going to see the 5 best mid-range SUVs:

Toyota RAV4

There is little to say about the world’s best-selling car last year. The RAV4 is a clear example of the good work of the Japanese brand and has managed to win over radically different audiences.

With 4.60 meters in length, we are facing one of the most spacious and versatile medium SUVs on the market, with five very usable seats and a 547-liter boot.

Nissan qashqai

In our list of the best mid-range SUVs, the cause of this trend could not be missing, and that is that the Qashqai is a vehicle that does not stand out in anything, but it complies in all sections.

It is a vehicle of only 4.39 meters in length, but has a cabin that is spacious enough to accommodate a family of four without problems.

The trunk, its weakest point, has 430 liters, so you will not be able to take everything that children want on a trip … Although it has some very usable ways and practical solutions to organize cargo.

In the mechanical section we miss a more powerful diesel mechanic ; it is true that the 130 hp is sufficient for the vast majority, but an option with 160 hp would open more the range of potential buyers. In gasoline there are two versions, both with turbo, 115 and 163 CV with blocks of 1.2 and 1.6 liters, respectively.

The ride comfort and good dynamic capabilities make you hardly notice a difference with a conventional saloon, but with a plus of handling in the city due to its small dimensions.

Peugeot 3008

Since its launch, the Peugeot 3008 has become one of the most desired models, with long waiting lists to get one. Reasons are not lacking for such a good reception, since it has a very sporty and different exterior aesthetic that makes it enter fully among the best mid-range SUVs.

Something similar happens inside, because it  seems that you have just entered a much more expensive and luxurious vehicle, with the latest technology and a most original distribution of controls, such as the placement of the instrument panel above the steering wheel.

SEAT Ateca

The Spanish model has one of the chassis with the best tuning in the segment. You hardly notice that you are driving a car with a high center of gravity, which makes it very effective in twisty cornering areas.

The interior suffers from that sobriety that it inherits from the Volkswagen Group, which makes it less striking than the 3008, but the quality of materials used has nothing to envy the French.

The mechanical range of the SEAT Ateca is one of the most balanced, with gasoline and diesel engines of between 116 and 190 HP of power. From the less powerful versions, the car achieves very good performance thanks to its weight content.

Mazda cx-5

The Japanese model has been one of the best mid-range SUVs for quite a few years. Enjoy a relationship between comfort and sportiness that make it the most recommended model for those who are not convinced about driving SUVs.

As a general rule, the body roll and the slowness of the support changes are more accentuated in this type of body, but with this model you will hardly notice differences compared to a conventional saloon.

The exterior lines are the most striking among its competitors, with sharp headlights and a glossy black grille that gives it a certain aggressive air.

The interior is very well used, with rear seats suitable for three adults and, although the trunk is a bit fair for the dimensions of the car, it has enough space to house the family’s luggage.

The mechanical range enjoys very powerful engines from the most basic ones. In gasoline, the access engine is a 2.0-liter turbo with 165 hp and above we have a 2.5-liter 194. In diesel, the offer is reduced to two magnificent options, both with the 2.2-liter with 150 or 175 hp.
