Presented for the first time at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the Lotus Evora 400 became the most powerful model in the history of the brand, without losing one iota of the high level of sporty sensations that the English signature.

Compared to the previous model, the brand has subjected the 400 to a small weight loss diet in which the total weight of the car has been reduced by 22 kilograms. It seems like a small thing, but in this type of vehicle every gram counts, and that is evident in the times made in different known circuits, the most used letter of introduction today.

That is the idea that we all have of the British brand, but the Lotus Evora 400 is much more than that, apart from being an exceptional car on the track and being able to transmit to the driver as much as its brothers, it has a series of luxuries that make their daily use minimally feasible. We talk about rear camera, heated seats, etc.

This makes its rivals become cars of the caliber of the Porsche 718 Cayman or the Jaguar F-Type. De-selling the 718 Cayman is tricky, but the public looking for a Lotus is someone who looks a step further and is truly passionate about the automotive world.

Design of the Lotus Evora 400

At just 4.38 meters in length, exactly the same as the Cayman, this is a compact sports car. But that feeling is increased by its low height, which at 1.22 meters seems that we are sitting on the ground.

The front end, with a sharp front bumper, gives  the 400 a rugged and aggressive look ; the hood and the headlights reveal the enormous aerodynamic work that this sports car carries, with flowing but discreet lines.

The rear is much more radical : it features a very high waist with a rising line to improve aerodynamic support on the rear axle. The round drivers, so characteristic of the brand, fit perfectly with the sports philosophy of the car.

A huge central exhaust pipe finishes off a menacing image. In general, the lines are less extreme than those of a Exige Sport, but much more sporty than those of a Cayman.

Inside

Once inside you realize that the Lotus Evora 400 is more comfortable than it seems, the sports seats fit the body perfectly and the dashboard comes with a considerable amount of  gadgets .

The two seats are placed very low and the driving position is very sporty, with the legs very stretched and the steering wheel almost vertical. Steering wheel, by the way, with perfect proportions and feel.

Between the passenger compartment and the small boot, the engine is perfectly integrated , in a very low central position, ideal for balancing the weight distribution and reducing the center of gravity. And yes, every time you open the trunk, you expose the precious engine.

Dynamics and engines

The Lotus Evora 400  mounts a 3.5-liter, 6-cylinder V supercharged mechanics. With it, the Lotus Evora 400 achieves 405 hp of power and a torque of 410 Nm between 3,500 and 6,000 revolutions per minute.

With such ingredients it is not surprising that it goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.2 seconds and reaches 300 km / h in the version with manual transmission; with the automatic transmission this last figure is 280 km / h.

The cornering is amazing, able to turn completely flat and understeer is a difficult task. Guidance is simple and very compliant even with the slightest indication of the steering wheel. To send all that power to the ground effectively it has generous 235/35 / R19 front and 285/30 / R19 rear tires.

The element that most conditions the effectiveness of your cornering is the new limited-slip differential, which together with the improved braking system, makes the Evora much more effective on the track than its predecessor.

Price

He starts from € 109,512, an amount that puts him face to face with a whole Porsche 911. It is difficult to see a Lotus Evora 400 on the street, but it is not so difficult on the track, where this car feels like home.
