Characterized by the fall of the roof, this SUV draws attention for its sporty aesthetics; It is muscular, very wide and the front has a small touch of aggressiveness
BMW X6, the forerunner of the SUV coupe segment

The BMW X6 is a coupe-looking SUV presented in 2008 and which, according to the brand, debuted a new segment, the SAC (Sport Activity Coupé). The second generation is currently for sale, which dates from 2015 and which, like its predecessor, shares a multitude of components with the more conventional BMW X5.

It is a vehicle in which design prevails over practicality,  since it lacks quite a bit of interior space considering its dimensions. Dimensions that give the X6 an imposing plant on the road, as well as a differentiation so important that it only has one rival in the market, the Mercedes GLE Coupé.

Exterior design

Aesthetically, the highlight of the BMW X6 is its peculiar profile with a coupe-like appearance, something unusual for an SUV, and a width of almost two meters.  This effect is achieved thanks to the drop of the roof from the B-pillar, which is detrimental to the space in the cabin for the head.

This second generation has sharper drivers attached to a larger grill. It is a style implemented for years by the brand, and little by little it has spread to almost the entire range. It also has a more sporty design bumper.

Form before function

The passenger compartment is presented especially conditioned by the peculiar shape of the body, which reduces the space in the rear row and the load capacity of the trunk. For the rest, we find large seats and a dashboard focused on the driver.

It features a more ergonomic layout than ever before,  providing an environment in which driving is a delight. In addition, in this second generation it is possible to equip a navigation system with a screen of up to 10.25 inches and the latest technologies in terms of connectivity.

Mechanics

In the mechanical section, the range consists of three diesel and two gasoline engines, to which we should add the all-powerful BMW X6 M. Starting from the diesel, there are the 30d and 40d, with 258 and 313 hp respectively. As a more powerful option is the M50d, with 381 hp and prepared by M Motorsport.

Speaking of the gasoline versions, ignoring the M variant, only the 35i and 50i are available , with 306 and 450 hp for each. In addition, the engine of the latter is a powerful 4.4-liter V8 biturbo.

All versions have opted for xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission signed by ZF. This type of change is increasingly used in luxury vehicles because it offers a very smooth and progressive behavior between gears.

Prices

You can have a BMW X6 from 77,600 euros. This price corresponds to the smallest gasoline. If you want to have under the hood the powerful V8 of the 50i you will have to pay at least 102,850 euros.

It is at least curious the situation that occurs between the basic diesel and the intermediate model. The 30d and 40d only differ by 700 euros, and in return there is 55 hp of power in favor of the second. Finally, the diesel version prepared by M is presented for a starting price of 114,200 euros.
