Citroën C-Elysée, A Good Economic Option

Citroën C-Elysée, a good economic option

The Citroën C-Elysée is a car produced by the French manufacturer Citroën. Its production began in 2001, and it belongs to the C segment despite being built on the B platform. This car was created thinking of being more affordable; eliminating elements that can be classified as “luxury” to make it cheaper.

First generation

It was produced from 2001 to 2013. Designed in China, it is a car derived from the Citroën ZX, it has some characteristics of the Citroën Xsara. Its sedan version comes from a combination of the Citroën ZX and the Peugeot 306. In 2008 a restyling was carried out and the letter C was added to its name.

At the time, it mounted a 1.6-liter 16-valve 111CV engine. Regarding its appearance, it had a fairly traditional design. Its front featured elongated headlights joined by the chevron lines of the Citroën shield. While at the front, the sedan version offered a very simple design, the hatchback version was a little more striking.

Upon receiving its re-styling in 2008, the C-Elysée gained in beauty, no longer giving the total low-cost appearance . Its lines were more defined, its headlights better stylized and followed the pattern joined by the chevrons of the brand’s symbol. Its taillights got bigger and a “triangular” design; in that year this car gained more presence regarding its appearance.

Second generation

This covers from 2013 to the present. It is a model very similar to the Peugeot 301 (since both were developed jointly), presented at the motor show in Paris. This car was created for the purpose of exporting it to certain countries, including: Turkey, Chile, Romania, Greece, and the Czech Republic.

It was manufactured in Spain at the Vigo plant. In its equipment we find that it has ABS brakes, air conditioning, airbags, and depending on the version it can include side airbags, bluethooth and recoil sensors. From this generation on, the Citroën C-Elysée gained a little more value and optimal equipment adapted to its time.

The new design is more defined and elegant. Its headlights have been increased in size and follow the typical Citroën binding pattern. The bumper comprises a grille without divisions and lights at each end. The rear, shows small square headlights, comparable to the first generation before the restyling.

In its engines, the C-Elysée, offers a range a bit lacking in variety and power. However, this forces the consumer to opt for more powerful models, if the car is intended to travel by road and with passenger loads.

It only has a diesel engine, this being a 1.6-liter BlueHDi engine with 100 hp of maximum power. In gasoline, it offers a 1.2-liter 85 HP Puretech engine and a 115 1.6 VTi. The 1.6 gasoline and diesel engines are the best option in case you require a little extra performance.

Current equipment of the Citroën C-Elysée.

The purpose is to be an inexpensive and very affordable car. For this reason, the equipment is quite limited in the accessory options it offers, even for the high end of the range. It offers from the simplest such as Airbags, Radio-CD with bluetooth, parking sensor or fog lights, at the same time, in the upper finish it offers a touch screen with Mirror Screen option, alloy wheels and chrome details.

Is it profitable to buy a C-Elysée?

Depending on the tastes and needs, the answer is yes. This is a fairly inexpensive car with sufficient equipment. Regarding space, the Citroën C-Elysée makes the most of its dimensions, being quite comfortable and with a 505-liter boot. It is just the space necessary for passengers to travel quietly and suitcases have space without much difficulty.

It is an excellent car for the city, however, not the most ideal for long trips. Despite this, Citroën has made it a great bet in relation to its components, performance and price in order to better position itself among its competition.
