Honda NSX, The Hybrid Supercar

Once again, Honda designers have managed to do something different from other brands, you will like it more or less, but an NSX does not leave you indifferent

The legend of the Japanese sports car world has changed a lot over the years. The gasoline engines with huge turbos of the old Honda NSX have given way to more ecological and modern versions, and all this without losing an iota of sportiness.

In 1990 a sports car appeared that left half the world open-mouthed, with futuristic and original lines that caused a sensation among lovers of Japanese style. But not only its aesthetics stole hearts, its dynamic capabilities were typical of sports cars that tripled their price.

Honda NSX exterior design

The front end leaves you speechless, the bumper looks like something out of a futuristic movie. The aggressive look of the elongated headlights reveal what is hidden under the hood, everything is thought and designed to go faster and faster.

The side has huge cooling inlets typical of the most radical Lamborghini, but the end result is wonderful.

The rear is very Japanese, with many quirky angles and shapes, with a brake light linking the two drivers. The exhaust outlet is central, with a huge mouth for a hybrid model.

Interior design

As soon as you look at the steering wheel you realize that you are in a sports car. The dashboard is narrow but very practical, all in order to disturb the driver as little as possible, who already has enough with what he has under his right foot.

The quality is good, but it does not reach the level of an Audi R8 or an Aston Martin Vantage. The feel of all the controls is very sporty, with just enough hardness so that everything looks more like driving than driving.

The two seats are wide and the seats, with an aluminum structure, take up the body beautifully, something necessary given the dynamic capabilities of the Honda NSX. The trunk is typical of a vehicle of these characteristics and its 110-liter capacity gives very little room for luggage.

Engine and dynamics

Part of the appeal of this Honda NSX is what it hides under that beautiful body. To leave nothing up in the air, this hybrid has a fantastic 507 horsepower 3.5-liter biturbo V6 that, supported by three electric motors, is capable of developing a combined power of 581 horsepower.

Everything about the NSX is effective, which is why it has a sophisticated all-wheel drive to provide traction with such force. In order not to reach 4.5 meters in length, the total weight of the car is quite high and its 1,851 kilograms should be noticeable while driving, but don’t be scared, the Japanese have it all figured out.

High-strength aluminum and steel have been used, giving the car extraordinary structural rigidity. The suspensions are hard, very hard; capable of restraining the body even in the most demanding support changes.

It has more advanced electronics than most of its rivals, but there are customers who prefer a purer driving and to be the ones who take more control of the car, but for those who are not very skilled at the wheel it comes from pearls.

The nine-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox provides the speed and precision a sports car needs. To stop the craving for speed, it comes equipped with top-notch carbon ceramic brake discs.

The top speed is 308 km / h, so it competes in performance with the most advanced sports cars of the moment, and all with a fairly low consumption for a car of these characteristics.

Price and conclusion

The price of the Honda NSX is 180,000 euros, a correct figure for its high technical and technological endowment. A Porsche 911 Turbo S with 581 horses, the same as the NSX, costs 233,000 euros, so it is quite well adjusted given the difference in image between one brand and another.

Perhaps, one of the strongest rivals of the Japanese is the Mclaren 540C, a car with similar capabilities to the NSX and with a more established image in the world of supercars, something that drag this type of cars of general brands compared to those of renowned luxury.
