How Often The ITV Must Be Passed
One of the questions that come to mind when buying a car is: when should the ITV pass? The truth is that each car has a specific date depending on several factors that we will tell you below.
When does my car have to pass the ITV?
The factor that determines the time to pass the ITV is undoubtedly age. Depending on the age of the vehicle, the time between one service and another could be longer or shorter.
Another influencing factor is the type of vehicle we have. Let’s make a list of all of them with the corresponding time of each revision.
Mopeds
Mopeds are exempt from ITV for the first three years of registration. That is, if you buy a new moped, your first service should be after three years.
Once three years are reached, and you pass the first ITV, you will have to do it again every two years, and so on until your ‘death’. This was a new law that was applied a few years ago, as mopeds did not pass official reviews before.
Motorcycles
Any two-wheeled vehicle that exceeds 49 cc is considered a motorcycle, so anyone with 80 cc or 125 cc, although many believe that it is a moped, is considered a motorcycle.
In this case, new motorcycles will be exempt from ITV their first four years of registration. That moment will come when they will have to pass their first inspection and then do it once every two years.
Passenger cars
Here comes the point that possibly interests us the most, our car. When must the ITV pass? Well, as in the case of motorcycles, the first four years of their registration will not require a technical inspection, but after this time, things change.
All those cars that have been registered between four and ten years must pass the technical inspection every two years. When they complete 10 years of enrollment, they will have to do so every year.
The condition of the vehicle does not influence this period under any circumstances. It does not matter that your car is nine years old and looks like it is two because it is very well cared for. It is the registration date, without exception, that determines when the ITV must pass.
Light vehicles
Trucks and trailers weighing less than 3,500 kilograms will be exempt from passing the ITV for the first two years from registration. After these first two years and up to six, they will have to pass the technical inspection every two years.
Buses and ambulances
Buses and ambulances will have to pass the ITV every year until their registration is five years old. Once the five years have passed, they will be obliged to do it every six months. The same applies to taxis.
Caravans
Caravans used as a car trailer will not have to pass the ITV until they are six years old, after which they will have to be checked and inspected every two years.
However, motorhomes will be exempt for the first four years, they will do so every two years when they are between 4 and 10 years old, and every year when 10 years have passed since their first registration.
Have you already identified your vehicle and are you aware of when the ITV has to pass? Remember that a new regulation allows you to pass the ITV even one month before the date without changing the later date.
