Huyndai Ix20: A Practical But Simple Minivan

The Hyundai ix20 is presented as a vehicle with many points in favor to be the ideal car for an average family. However, this minivan goes quite unnoticed even within the Hyundai range.

The ix20 is a spacious, useful, versatile and energy-efficient car. In addition, it has a good interior finish and an engine with many possibilities.

The aesthetic deficiency of the Hyundai ix20

Despite all these advantages, the reason for the little diffusion of the Korean minivan is its aesthetics. Despite its redesign, which brings a fairly modern look, it lacks any flashy touches to stand out at the showroom. Perhaps, his brothers the Hyundai i10 and i20, provide greater freshness in this regard.

This is the main problem of the model. While not an ugly vehicle, it lacks a level of appeal that does justice to the rest of its features.

Its large front grill, the design of its rear lights and its small spoiler could play in its favor, but even with these details it does not attract attention. In the opinion of many potential customers, the ix20 is too “normal” a car.

This may not be a disadvantage for non-brand consumers, but for most it is a disadvantage. Everyone wants to notice the appeal of their car when they see it, with the details that make the model unique. This is precisely what the Hyundai ix20 lacks.

The appeal is on the inside

In contrast to the shortcomings of the exterior design, the interior of the ix20 does attract attention. It is possible to add interesting extras such as a screen with a browser and a rear camera, which raise the price of the model by 900 euros. An attractive panoramic roof is also offered, although it is not standard.

The interior has many hard plastic parts, although well combined with perfectly fitted metal elements.

The feeling of space and habitability is enormous, even without the glass ceiling. The front seats are comfortable, but it is the rear ones that stand out for their great space.

Nor are there many decorations in terms of the tray or the presence of storage holes. The trunk, on the other hand, has a generous capacity of 440 liters, which can reach 500 if it is filled to the roof of the vehicle.

The driver’s position is slightly higher than that of other utility vehicles of the same format. They are only two centimeters more than the average, but it is a difference that is perceived from the beginning.

Front knobs and controls

The instrument panel also has no special decorations, but stands out for its great visibility and readability. It does not have very attractive additions, but it is easy to use. Also, the blue backlighting makes it quite nice, especially at night.

The center console is framed in an inconspicuous gray, but it clearly delimits all the controls and controls. The design is somewhat futuristic, which adds a point in favor of aesthetic appeal.

The navigation system works well and is very intuitive, although its tactile sensitivity can be improved. The display provides information on driving factors and the zoom is easy to control.

As for the air conditioning system, the controls are comfortable and easy to handle. The pilot controls are well placed, with a pleasant-handling multifunction steering wheel. The USB connection, however, is too hidden.

Finally, you can miss an armrest with storage space, as if we find in other minivans.

The dynamics and technique of the ix20

Performance brings interesting benefits to the Hyundai model. The suspension is quite soft, very practical for day-to-day city driving. However, it has no option of hardening to fit more rugged surfaces.

The car’s response is fantastic when dodging potholes, crossing speed bumps and cornering.

Keep in mind that the inertia of the car is quite high for its size. This makes it advisable to take your foot off the accelerator a little and control the steering wheel well when taking roundabouts with some speed.

The engine is very elastic, with the ability to push the vehicle below 1,500 rpm. Combined consumption is determined at 6.1 liters per one hundred km.

As engine options, Hyundai offers two diesel 90 and 115 hp, and two gasoline 90 and 126 hp.

In short, despite all the minor criticisms and lack of aesthetic details, the ix20 is an interesting minivan. It is not a flashy vehicle, but it is comfortable and spacious, and with a fairly competitive price.
