Lexus NX: The Facelift Of The Japanese SUV

In the new generation of the Lexus NX , improvements have been made to a model that was already more than attractive. The Japanese manufacturer has added new aesthetic details to its hybrid SUV vehicle.

Lexus has greatly increased its sales in Europe thanks to its revamped model. Across the continent, the NX has accounted for a third of the brand’s sales. In addition, between 50% and 70% of the brand’s new customers have decided on this model. With this growth in sales, Lexus has reached record figures in its history.

What’s new in the exterior design of the NX

The Lexus NX has evolved along the same lines as the rest of the brand’s renewed models, such as the IS or the CT. The aesthetic enhancements are modest, but certainly noticeable.

The Japanese brand has noticed the few weaknesses of its previous versions and has applied quite attractive improvements. An example is in the front grille, which has been increased in size and made more prominent.

This element now gives a more aggressive look to the vehicle, and has a very attractive 3D lattice design with slightly futuristic shapes.

It is an aesthetic that can also be found in other models of the brand, which has made this detail one of the Lexus signatures. As for the headlights, these have been made slightly longer, with 23 LEDs in each. These elements now feature a newly designed adaptive lighting system for the new version of the Lexus NX.

The air intakes contribute to increasing the aggressive look, as well as the front bumper. This last element has the same dimensions as in its previous version. The redesign of the same focuses on a wider and slimmer shape.

On the other hand, the side of the NX you can find two different designs of 18-inch wheels. Plus, modest shape changes to the profile add a more robust look.  Meanwhile, the rear stands out for a more elevated and slim aesthetic.

The interior of the Japanese SUV

Inside, the vehicle’s redesign has focused on optimizing the controls. The front panel now has half the buttons, simplifying the management of car functions.

A new 10.3-inch screen has been installed in the center of the dashboard , which represents an increase in size of 15% compared to the previous model.

On the other hand, the wireless charging surface placed in the area of ​​the central arm has also increased. As a  last addition to the cabin is the Mark Levinson sound system, with 14 speakers. This attractive sound system is an extra option that can replace the standard Pioneer 10-speaker package that already delivers high-quality sound.

Finally, the boot provides a generous 555-liter capacity. Its large dimensions are hardly affected by the larger size of the batteries. This places the Lexus NX as a very attractive option for long trips and with the family.

The mechanics of the new Lexus NX

The Lexus NX incorporates front-wheel drive, managed by a 2.5-liter gasoline engine capable of reaching 143 hp. On the other hand, the electric drive can drive the rear axle to provide 68 hp.

The new batteries in the electrical system add 50 kg more to this SUV, but allow to reduce its center of gravity due to the location of the batteries. This helps to improve the maneuverability of the vehicle.

In addition, the suspension system is stiffer, which improves dynamism when driving on the road. This allows passengers to enjoy a higher level of comfort when facing long journeys.

All of these changes, although not radical, improve the vehicle’s ability to adapt to varying terrain conditions.

The prices of the renewed NX

With basic equipment, the new Lexus NX starts at 39,900 euros. As the customer seeks higher ranges, the price can grow to 66,500 euros.

In this line you can find four different levels of finish. The first of all, as in other models, is the ECO. Above it is the Business -for 42,300 euros-, the Executive -for 52,100 euros- and, finally, the Luxury .

This SUV is one more example of the good work of the Japanese brand, which is limiting its redesigns to simple modifications, but very successful. With the new NX, Lexus makes a tough competition to other Asian-made hybrids, such as the Kia Optima.
