Lexus RX: even more power with less consumption

The new Lexus RX achieves a more elegant and modern design with high-quality and efficient mechanics. The engineering teams of the Japanese brand continue to improve each vehicle with their redesigns and they do not stop surprising the market. This model is committed to a more sporty aesthetic, as was the case with the Lexus RC.

The RX’s curb appeal

The aesthetics of the exterior include a body with a more athletic and modern appearance than in previous models. On the front of the RX stand out the headlights, positioned at the ends and on both sides of a huge front grille.

This double arrow-shaped front panel is an icon on Lexus models, but in this case it is redesigned to a large size. In addition, the C-pillar extends uninterruptedly the length of the vehicle. This achieves a ‘floating roof’ feel, bringing a more dynamic look to the top of the RX.

The dimensions grow compared to previous models. The new RX reaches a width of 1,895 mm and a length of 4,890 mm, which is 120 mm more than before. The wheelbase also grows by 50mm, resulting in 22mm more passenger legroom.

The interior redesign

The interior of the RX retains the refined appearance typical of the model and the usual seal of quality. However, new details are added, such as wooden elements decorated with lines printed by laser technology.

These trims already appeared on other Lexus models, such as the IS. The Japanese manufacturer has partnered with Yamaha to add these attractive details typical of Japanese pianos to their vehicles .

In addition to the elements devoted primarily to attractiveness, the interior of the RX grows in practicality. This is achieved with a larger dashboard and a large multimedia screen, which reaches 12.3 inches.

The vehicle’s technology includes the Head-Up Display system , which projects information onto the windshield as a hologram. This attractive detail provides a futuristic aesthetic and gives the driver a wide range of information about the vehicle.

This data can be viewed on a projected surface, equivalent to a 10-inch screen. Among them are full-color browser instructions. In addition, between the two main clocks located behind the wheel, another 4.2-inch screen has been placed. This element provides even more information for the driver.

Among the rest of the interior additions is the climate control, which detects the presence of passengers to activate one or the other air vents ; In addition, this system has nano-technology to purify the air. Finally, the audio is made up of Mark Levinson brand technology.

Improvements in propulsion dynamics

The new Lexus RX achieves better grip when cornering despite its considerable bulk. This improves the driving experience on the riskiest sections, as well as safety. The chassis increases stiffness by 30% and the adaptive suspension system improves road holding.

On the other hand, the Drive Mode Select system  allows the vehicle’s response to be personalized. The pilot will have the ECO, Normal and Sport modes , in addition to the Sport + in the higher trim versions. In sportier mode, the vehicle improves its performance and provides a slightly more aggressive response, without major differences in power delivery.

As for the propulsion of the RX, this system has a V6 gasoline engine of 3.5 liters. The thermal part provides 262 hp of power, which is complemented by an electric unit that delivers 167 hp to the front axle and 68 hp to the rear. The total power of the vehicle reaches 313 hp at 6,000 rpm, with a torque of 335 Nm at 4,600 rpm.

With this high power and the considerable weight of the RX, which reaches 2,100 kg, the consumption is fixed at more than attractive values. The combined cost is between 5.2 and 5.5 liters per 100 km, depending on the chosen finish. These values reach record figures in the history of Lexus in terms of the consumption-power-size ratio.

Prices and finishes

In terms of customer options, the RX offers five trim levels. The most basic is the ECO , for 63,200 euros. Next, there is the Corporate , which amounts to 66,700 euros. Beyond that, the Executive and F-Sport variants can be purchased for 75,700 or 79,900 euros, respectively. Finally, the top of the range is the Luxury finish , which reaches 90,300 euros.

Although it is not a cheap car, the Lexus RX offers complete equipment, with a powerful propulsion and at the cost of a very low consumption for a vehicle of its category and size, with better characteristics than other models, such as the Lexus NX.
