The current Maserati range is made up of recent models and other veterans. Between the two is the most interesting of all, the Maserati Quattroporte, the saloon of Italian representation par excellence. It is a luxury sedan that is now in its sixth generation since it began its journey back in 1963.

After the success of the previous generation, the new Quattroporte improves on everything and maintains its peculiar rivalry with the BMW 7 Series or the Mercedes S-Class, among others. It increases in size – 5,262 mm long, 1,948 mm wide, 1,481 mm high and a wheelbase of 3,171 mm – while reducing its weight, less than 2,000 kilos.

On the market since 2013, it underwent a slight facelift in 2016 in which both the front and rear were modified. In turn, the Italians took the opportunity to update the infotainment system with the latest connectivity technologies.

Exterior design

In terms of aesthetics, the Maserati Quattroporte VI revisits what was seen in the previous generation, with a much more personal and aggressive design, especially on the front. The low and sharp front is adorned by tiny Full LED headlights  ;  it scraps the fog lamps in favor of more cooling inputs for the engine.

Seen in profile there is no doubt that we are facing a Maserati of the modern era, with the already characteristic shape of the glass area and a belt line that is accentuated on the rear axle to emphasize that we are dealing with a rear-wheel drive vehicle.

The rear is possibly the most classic point of the car. The horizontal LED lights accompany a tailgate with a small integrated spoiler , which rounds off the whole with a slim diffuser with two or four exhaust outlets depending on the engine.

Cabin

The interior is a spacious, luxurious and very well finished space. In 2013 it was a turning point for the brand, but over the years it is a design that has been standardized and shared with other models of the brand. The few buttons on the dashboard stand out, as the central screen contains a multitude of functions.

It offers plenty of space for four occupants, five if the three in the back are tighter, and a cargo capacity large enough for the suitcases of the whole family: 530 liters of luggage space. With the 2016 renovation, the materials have been updated, with wood, leather and carbon fiber among other options.

Versions

In total, there are four versions that make up the range: Quattroporte S, S Q4, GTS and diesel. For this year the production of the basic Quattroporte has been discontinued, and now diesel is the entry model to the range. In parallel, these four can be combined with the two style packages, GranLusso and GranSport.

Under the hood we can find three completely different engines. On the one hand, there is the V6 diesel, a 3.0-liter with 275 hp of power. Another 3.0-liter V6 engine – this time with gasoline – gives life to the Quattroporte S, with 430 hp of power. Both engines

As top of the range we have the most performance Quattroporte GTS. In this case, it carries a huge 3.8-liter, 530-hp V8 biturbo engine, the same engine that we find in the Maserati Levante Trofeo, although in the latter there is an increase in power of 60 hp compared to the saloon.

All of them are combined with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, while the traction is rear. Different set in the S Q4, which adds all-wheel drive with intelligent torque distribution, a system that sends more force to the rear axle, but is capable of offering a 50-50 distribution between both axles.

Prices

If we look at the official catalog of the brand, the Maserati Quattroporte is presented with a starting price of 111,800 euros for the diesel version. Above this is the Quattroporte S and S Q4, available from 133 100 and 138 100 euros, respectively.

Finally, the Maserati Quattroporte GTS has the highest price, close to the 200,000 euro barrier, specifically from 191,700. It is clear that with such a high rate, money is not a problem, so that barrier can be overcome of the 200,000 euros easily once optional equipment is added.
