Nissan Navara

The Nissan Navara is the Japanese brand’s bet to compete directly with the pick-up of the moment, the Toyota Hilux.

At Nissan, for the past two decades, they have taken the premise of betting on crossovers very seriously. Vehicles that are not only closed to a group of pre-established possibilities , and that are committed to attracting more than one type of audience. Versatile is perhaps the adjective that suits them best. Precisely, the latest generation of the Nissan Navara, the already veteran pick up of the Japanese automaker, is a good example of this.

The Nissan Navara is a van for professional use, with all that this implies. Strength, space to transport intermediate volumes of cargo and even to tow small additional units . Ability to navigate uneven terrain, off paved roads.

A vehicle to reach inhospitable areas, hard and difficult work, but it is also a comfortable vehicle, equipped with accessories and possibilities that have nothing to envy to the company’s SUVs.

Destining the new Nissan Navara as a car to go on family vacations is not a crazy scenario and, considering that it can be used much beyond the asphalt, even less.

The pick-up market. Everyone against the Toyota Hilux?

The presence and dominance of the Toyota Hilux during the last decades in the pick-up section is almost unquestionable. Perhaps in the United States is where this model has had the greatest difficulty in adapting, thanks to the fact that some Ford or Dodge models have claimed their indigenous character.

Among the range of competitors currently facing this segment of the Japanese company’s vehicles, in addition to the Navara, are the Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200, Mazda BT-50 or Chevrolet S-10.

On the market since 1986, the Nissan Navara has not been able to establish itself under a common name in all markets. Quite the opposite of what was achieved by its great rival, which is known around the globe simply as Hilux.

Alternate names include: Terrano, Hardbody, Frontier or simply Nissan Pick Up.  The first three generations bet on bringing only professionalism to a vehicle developed for work, but since 2015 it is much more than that.

Nissan Navara: pragmatism and efficiency in its engine

Current models of the Nissan Navara offer a single option,  2.3-liter dCi capacity, diesel, 4 × 4 and with 160 or 190 hp of power. It can run alongside a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed automatic. The company also promises 24% more efficiency compared to the previous generation.

It offers enough force to carry over 1,000 kg or tow up to 3,500 kg. And all this while driving on uneven and unfriendly terrain.

Mechanical enhancements to the latest generation include an optimized rear suspension system. Also a new rigid axle with leaf springs, which represent a saving of 20 Kg to the total weight of the vehicle.

Design and comfort

Nissan’s commitment to giving its vehicle many differentiating features compared to its competitors is not petty. Its bodywork, up to 5.3 m in length, offers smooth and sleek lines, without completely dispensing with a robust stance.

Available in a two-door King Cab version, with an optional rear seat line, this model offers up to a total of 1.78 m length in its cargo area. Also available in a double cabin with four doors and 1.57 m for transporting materials, boxes and luggage.
