What To Do When We Get Hit By The Car Window

What to do when we suffer a blow on the car moon

A hit on the car window is a fact that can happen frequently. If you don’t act decisively and quickly, it can be very dangerous. Even if the impact has caused a small break, it is essential to repair it immediately.

The windows, especially the front one, are permanently under stress. The material from which they are made, the curved shape and various aspects of the circulation, are added to determine their fragility. With all this, any blow to the car window can fracture it.

Why is the car window damaged?

Glass is a fragile material, and added to its location and spaciousness on the moon, they expose this part of the car to relative fragility.

Stones on the road that jump driven by another vehicle in front, sudden changes in temperature, vibrations, potholes in the road, falling trees and vandalism when the car is stationary, are different causes of broken windows.

Some interesting facts:

  • The front window or windshield is the one with the highest frequency of breakage, up to 73%. In spite of everything, it is a reasonable figure, given its exposure.
  • The main cause of breakage is the impact on the car window caused by gravel. A stone that is projected and impacts on the windshield, that happens in 80% of the blows on the moon. It is followed in percentage by vandalism and at a certain distance in statistics by the fall of branches.

Types of breaks in the moon

  • Superficial wear. It manifests as a subtle line on the windshield. The glass will be weaker, but if there are no blows the problem will not increase.
  • Bull’s eye. It is a hole up to two centimeters in diameter, which is shaped like a cone. The vertex of this cone is located inside the moon. In the case of laminated windows, it is located on the PVB sheet.
  • Micro-cracked porthole. Tears in the form of cracks are added to the simple porthole, which arise as a result of the blow to the car window.
  • It is the most dangerous and most worrisome injury. Multiple cracks appear that if not treated immediately will spread, destroying the moon.

Whatever the symptom on the moon, it is important to attend to the injury immediately.

What to do when a car window hits?

  • The first step is to know that a blow to the car window does not only affect what you see. Do not underestimate the small bull’s-eye circle or the small star that can appear in the glass.
  • No injury to the moon is harmless. When there is a blow, even a small one, the entire moon weakens and runs the risk of breaking into pieces.
  • The properties decrease and the glass is exposed to any factor destroying it. For example, a sudden change in temperature, internal or external, can destroy it. If the glass is weak, anything can happen.
Repair car glass.
  •  When the affected moon is laminated, it can be replaced or repaired. In case the fracture is slight and it is attended immediately after it occurs, the repair will solve the problem. It involves less expense and excellent results are obtained.
  • Windshields are generally laminated glass. However, the rear and side windows are not, so any break in them requires replacement.

In either case, the best suggestion is to take the car to the glass repair shop. That way we will avoid further damage.

Some precautions against a blow to the car window

If the car is circulating and a pebble hits the windshield, at that same moment the actions and precautions begin.

  • Stop driving gradually, avoid braking hard.
  • Reduce the difference in temperature inside and outside the car. If the moon was hit, the glass is weak and a temperature imbalance will affect it.
  • Assess the state of the moon and make a decision : take it to the workshop or call the roadside assistance service.
  • Do not travel very long stretches with the affected glass. The problems can be bigger.

What if, when returning to the parked car, the driver finds the glass of the moon completely shattered ? Whether or not you are down, you will not have adequate visibility. Therefore, the best suggestion is to stay with the car and call a mechanic.
